How to remodel a kitchen in one week! (almost)

This is an almost "before" picture. I already posted about our late night experience of tearing the peninsula out of the middle of our kitchen. This picture shows how the rug in the middle of the floor has been covering the bare spot until we could finish what we started.
So the first part of the job was definitely the fastest and easiest. We ripped those old cupboards out with gusto. What we eventually found was a busted drain behind the wall. (If you will recall with me the whole bathroom renovation a few months back. Well, we finally found the real culprit to our whole leak.) We also realized we had to raise the cabinets up to meet the level of the floor all around because we were adding more cabinets. To make a long story short, the kitchen looked like this for the majority of the week.
This picture is just for proof that I pitched in and helped with the construction. It also proves that I know how to handle an electric screwdriver, which some people may find surprising.
Levi was happy to test out all the new equipment for us. This is him in the sink in the living room. That is where it sat for the majority of the week also.
This picture depicts the working relationship that Dayne has with his dad. Dayne's dad helped us out throughout the whole project, and we are SO grateful for his help!
 AND THIS...
Is almost the finished product! All we have left to do is some trim work and a backsplash. We also installed handles just after I took this shot. I will post one more picture when the detail work is finished, which will hopefully be before April since classes have started back up for Dayne. Let's just say he has plenty of little study breaks to keep him from getting too bogged down in the books.

On a side note I will just add that we did this whole project on a very small budget, proving that being a "Do-It-Yourselfer" really can save money. The cabinets, countertop, and flooring were all purchased in stock at Home Depot. This was probably the only time I could let my husband go to that store without any anxiety over what he would do there!
